1981年大学を卒業後 アメリカ合衆国アリゾナ州にあるRoberto-Venn School of Luthieryに入学。同年卒業。帰国後、モーリス楽器製造株式会社に入社。アーティストモデルや高級注文品の制作、新製品の開発に携わる。1982年東京都八王子市にてシモギターズ設立。材料の選定から制作・販売までを一人で行う Luthier（ルシアー）の日本における先駆者であり、伝統的なスタイルの楽器はもちろんのこと、“誰も見たことがない楽器” を世に送り出している。1992年よりギターと並行して製作を開始したウクレレは「シモレレ」の愛称で親しまれカルト的な人気を誇る。
Born in Tokyo in 1958,
After graduating from university in 1981, Shimo attended the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in Arizona, USA, and graduated the same year. Upon returning to Japan, he joined Morris MFG Co., Ltd where he was involved in the production of artist models, high-end custom-made products, and the development of new products. In 1982, he established Shimo Guitars in Hachioji, Tokyo. He is a pioneer in Japan in the field of Luthier, handling everything from material selection to production and sales by himself. He produces not only traditional-style instruments but also “instruments that no one has ever seen before.” In 1992, he began producing guitars and ukuleles, nicknamed “Shimolele,” which have gained a cult-like following.
