株式会社ヤイリギターにて40年間、マスタークラフトマンとして勤め上げる。退職後岐阜県可児市にKawakami Guitarsを設立。60年以上の楽器製作のキャリアを誇る名工である。ヤイリ時代から氏の技術に惚れ込んだギターリスト、リッチー・ブラックモアは独立後もオーダーを続けKawakami Guitars以外のアコースティックギターは手にしないほどである。カナダ、バンクーバーで活躍する息子であるギター製作家川上祐介氏との共同ブランドMajestyも人気を得ている。
Kawakami worked as a master craftsman at K Yairi Guitar for 40 years. Following retirement, he established Kawakami in Kani City, Gifu Prefecture. He is a renowned master craftsman with a career spanning over 60 years. Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, who was impressed by Kawakami’s craftsmanship, has continued to order from him before and after becoming independent. It is said that Blackmore only plays Kawakami acoustic guitars. In addition, his son Yusuke Kawakami who is an active luthier in Vancouver, Canada, has created a joint brand with him called Majesty, which is also highly sought-after.
